Fez is a PHP / MySQL front end to the Fedora repository software. It is developed by the University of Queensland Library as an open source project hosted on SourceForge. There are mailing lists, forums and download links on the SourceForge site.

[edit] Fez 2 Release Candidate 1 Released

  • Refactored search index for much greater performance and scaling
  • New citation engine and citation view
  • Compatibility with Fedora 2.2.1, 2.2 and 2.1.1 (Fez 1.3 needed patches to work with Fedora 2.2)
  • Simpler installation with as-you-install configuration checks and suggestions
  • Many bugfixes and improvements since Fez 1.3

This week the Fez team is working on:

  • Belinda: Thinking about UQ eSpace software requirements.
  • Christiaan: Adding support for database session storage (rather than files). Adding ORCA feed support. Track our progress in our code commit log here: Fez WebSVN commit log
  • Lachlan: Documenting the Human Resources data feeds scripts that pump data into Fez for form controls and the author affiliation workflows.
  • Rhys: More tightly integrating the assigned user/group and status values on objects with workflows and security. Adding support for Solr Faceting in the Fez search results/query GUI.

The Fez developer community is working on:

  • Kai Jauslin @ ETH: Integrating Apache Solr with Fez (including FezACML auth restriction during query) as an indexing/searching engine plugin option (contributed). Redoing Fez layout.
  • Luis Zorita @ UNED: Integrating Moodle-style translation engine into Fez.
  • Lynette Rayle @ NSDL: Integrating OnFire workflow and distribution system with Fez.
  • Jonathon Harker @ Catalyst: Adding Postgresql support for Fez including TSearch2 for fulltext indexing.
  • Keith Maull @ Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries: Implementing alternate (multiple) namespaces in the one Fez and Fedora instance. Integrated Oragami Image viewer (contributed).
  • Matt Painter @ Archives New Zealand: Implementing recursive directory trawling into the batch ingest workflow (contributed).
