The University of Queensland Library as part of the APSR project will start offering Fez hosting services from 1st Quarter 2007. The service is intended for institutions who do not have their own technical staff and/or required hardware and would like to run a Fez site and leverage from the established technical administration skills of the UQ Library Fez team. The service aims to provide an opportunity to evaluate Fez and Fedora with options to proceed to a longer term hosting agreement or to migrate to your own institutionally hosted repository. Details on price will be posted in due course.

Each Fez site in the service will be hosted on the UQ Library storage area network which is a robust, highly available storage system. We are also looking into ESX virtualisation for enhanced availability and disaster management as well as to provide a short setup time. Fez evaluation sites will be able to be exported to be installed on the clients own servers at the end of a hosting contract if they wish to host Fez themselves.

We have been developing the technical details of the service in conjunction with Catalyst IT Limited who are currently offering hosting for several New Zealand sites. Catalyst are an experienced open source development and hosting business for the Moodle learning object management system and many other open source applications.

There is another open source software hosting company in Chile who are developing a hosting service for Fez for their region.
